Raining Perseids
NASA APOD · Fred Bruenjes
COSMIC MESSAGE
Last week, comet dust rained down on Earth, creating the annual Perseid meteor shower. Astronomer Fred Bruenjes recorded a series of 30-second exposures over six hours on August 11/12. Combining frames that caught meteor flashes, he produced this view of the Perseids. Although the dust particles travel parallel, perspective makes them appear to streak from a radiant point in the sky.
