“The Great Nebula in Orion” is copyrighted by Stefan Seip. NASA has permission to show it and we don't, so it isn't on this card.
See it on NASA's siteThe Great Nebula in Orion, also known as M42, is a region of young stars, hot gas, and dark dust. Visible to the naked eye as a fuzzy patch, long-exposure images reveal its intricate details. The Trapezium, four bright stars at its heart, powers much of the nebula. Many of the filamentary structures are shock waves from fast-moving gas.
