Earth Nears Asteroid Toutatis
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
In 2004, Earth had its closest predicted encounter with asteroid Toutatis, passing within a million miles. This is roughly four times the Earth-Moon distance. This illustration shows what Earth would have looked like from the asteroid, appearing almost as large as the full Moon. From Earth, Toutatis was a faint, rapidly moving point of light against the stars.
