NGC 3132: The Eight Burst Nebula

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Eight-Burst Nebula, or NGC 3132, is a planetary nebula created by the dim star, not the bright one, near its center. This glowing gas originated in the outer layers of a star similar to our Sun. The hot blue light surrounding this binary system is energized by the faint star's hot surface. The image reveals both the overall symmetry and subtle asymmetries of the nebula.
