NGC 1531/2: Interacting Galaxies

This image from the Gemini South telescope shows NGC 1531 and NGC 1532, an interacting pair of galaxies. NGC 1531 is the background galaxy, and NGC 1532 is the foreground spiral. Their gravitational tug-of-war has triggered star formation in NGC 1532.
