On February 12, 2001, the NEAR-Shoemaker spacecraft made the first-ever landing on an asteroid, Eros. During its descent, the camera captured a series of images of the surface, revealing fractured boulders and dust-filled craters. The last frame, taken 128 meters above the surface, shows features just a few centimeters across.
