Part of the Eagle Nebula, this pillar of gas and dust is being sculpted by the intense radiation from nearby hot, young stars. The "fairy" shape, ten light years tall, is a dense region resisting erosion. This structure, found in the M16 star-forming region, is actively losing material to the harsh stellar winds.
