These are the "Pillars of Creation" in the Eagle Nebula, imaged by the Hubble Space Telescope. Inside these dense columns of gas and dust, new stars are forming, hidden from view. The intense ultraviolet light from massive, young stars erodes the pillars, exposing the nascent stars within their "EGGs," or evaporating gaseous globules.
