Magma Bubbles from Mt. Etna

NASA APOD · Stromboli online
COSMIC MESSAGE

Mount Etna, a basalt volcano in Sicily, Italy, erupted spectacularly in June 2001. This photograph captures the volcano expelling bubbles of hot magma, some over a meter across. Planetary geologists study Etna because its basalt composition and lava channels are similar to those found on Mars.
