This all-sky image from the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe, or WMAP, maps the cosmic microwave background. It shows the universe as it was only 380,000 years after the Big Bang. WMAP's data helped us determine the age of the universe, 13.7 billion years, with remarkable precision.
