Skylab was an orbiting laboratory launched in May 1973. NASA astronauts visited it three times, staying for up to two and a half months. They performed many scientific tests, including astronomical observations in ultraviolet and X-ray light. These observations provided valuable information about Comet Kohoutek, our Sun, and the mysterious X-ray background radiation.
