COSMIC MESSAGE
A thousand years ago, Chinese astronomers recorded a new star, the brightest supernova in human history. It was visible for months in the constellation Lupus. This image simulates what it might have looked like, based on a modern photograph overlooking the Mediterranean. The expanding debris cloud from SN 1006 is still visible today to telescopes.
