NASA APOD · Stefan Seip and Steffen Bruckner
COSMIC MESSAGE

Astronomer Stefan Seip captured this image of Fragment C of comet 73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3 approaching M57, the Ring Nebula, and faint spiral galaxy IC 1296. Although they appear close, the comet is in the inner solar system, about 0.5 light-minutes from Seip's telescope near Stuttgart, Germany. The Ring Nebula, in the upper right, is much farther, about 2,000 light-years away.
