NASA APOD · Sheldon Faworski and Sean Walker (MASIL Astro-Imaging Team)
COSMIC MESSAGE

Fragment C of comet 73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3 passed almost directly in front of the Ring Nebula, M57, and faint spiral galaxy IC 1296. This view shows the bright head of Fragment C separated by only about 0.1 degrees from M57, with the comet's tail appearing to engulf the nebula and galaxy. This image was recorded from Elizabeth, Illinois, USA, shortly after an earlier observation.
