Driving Toward a Sun Halo

COSMIC MESSAGE
Sometimes the Sun appears to be viewed through a giant lens, but it is actually millions of tiny ice crystals. When water freezes in the upper atmosphere, it can form small, flat, six-sided crystals. As these crystals fall, they often orient themselves parallel to the ground. When an observer is in the same plane as many of these crystals during sunrise or sunset, a halo forms around the Sun.
