Mira Over Germany

NASA APOD · Stefan Seip (AstroMeeting.de)
COSMIC MESSAGE

The variable star Mira, a red giant, can dramatically change its brightness over a year. Seen here above a castle in Stuttgart, Germany, it was near its brightest point. Mira is a pulsating star, expanding and contracting, which causes its luminosity to vary. It is a relatively cool star, much larger than our Sun.
