NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Triton, Neptune's largest moon, was discovered in 1846 by William Lassell. The Voyager 2 spacecraft provided the only close-up images of Triton in 1989. Voyager 2 found a geologically active world with cryovolcanism and a thin nitrogen atmosphere. Triton is unique in our solar system for orbiting Neptune in a retrograde direction.
