Looking Back at an Eclipsed Earth

NASA APOD · CNES
COSMIC MESSAGE

This is what Earth looks like during a solar eclipse, seen from space. The Moon's shadow darkens a part of our planet, moving at nearly 2,000 kilometers per hour. Only observers directly under the dark circle experience a total solar eclipse. This specific image of the 1999 August 11 eclipse was one of the last taken from the Mir space station.
