Just Passing Through

M33 is a large spiral galaxy only 3 million light-years away. It is a popular target for astro-imagers, who usually process out satellite trails and airplane streaks. Robert Stephan left these streaks in his final picture of M33. He realized that he had also recorded something relatively rare: the tail of an asteroid, a cosmic visitor passing through.
