This infrared image from the Spitzer Space Telescope shows a star-forming region in our Milky Way, called IRDC G11.11-0.11. Thick clouds of dust and gas are collapsing to form new stars. The infrared light lets us see through the dark dust, revealing the heated gas and nascent stars within.
