A Jet from the Sun

NASA APOD · Hinode
COSMIC MESSAGE

A jet of plasma erupts from the Sun, contributing to the solar wind. The Japanese Hinode satellite captured these jets, which are thought to be powered by Alfvén waves generated by the Sun's changing magnetic field. These gusts of particles can affect satellites and astronauts in Earth's orbit.
