NASA APOD · Bob Nanz (San Diego Astronomy Association)
COSMIC MESSAGE

Two spectacular comets graced Earth's skies in 2007: Comet McNaught and Comet Holmes. Comet McNaught, shown here, became brighter than any comet in 40 years, displaying an expansive dust tail with unusual striations. Comet Holmes, while not pictured, also showed a surprising outburst later in the year.
