Mauna Kea Shadow Play
NASA APOD · Alex Mukensnable
COSMIC MESSAGE
On February 20, 2008, the setting Sun and rising, eclipsed Moon made a remarkable shadow play over Mauna Kea. The shadow of the mountain stretched across the lower cloud deck and into Earth's dense atmosphere. This view from near the 14,000-foot peak of the volcano shows the Moon within that shadow. With snowy cinder cones in the foreground, the lunar eclipse was drawing to a close.
