Sculpting the South Pillar

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

The South Pillar region of the Carina Nebula is a fantastic landscape of glowing dust and gas. These pillars, with newborn stars embedded within them, are sculpted by the intense wind and radiation from Eta Carinae, one of the most massive and unstable stars in our galaxy. The expansive Eta Carinae Nebula is about 10,000 light-years distant and glows brightly in Earth's southern sky.
