Vela Supernova Remnant

NASA APOD · Robert Gendler
COSMIC MESSAGE

The debris from a massive star's death explosion, the Vela Supernova Remnant, stretches across 16 degrees of sky. This complex of glowing filaments in the constellation Vela is where the light from the supernova reached Earth about 11,000 years ago. Beyond the gas, the catastrophe also left behind a pulsar, a rapidly spinning neutron star.
