Star Forming Region NGC 3582

COSMIC MESSAGE

The NGC 3582 nebula is a star-forming region, part of RCW 57. This image shows dense knots of dark interstellar dust and bright, young stars. Glowing hydrogen gas, ionized by these stars, fills the region, alongside loops of gas expelled by dying stars. Studies of NGC 3582 have identified at least 33 massive stars in their final stages of formation.
