Changes in Angular Mars

NASA APOD · Richard Bosman
COSMIC MESSAGE

Mars doesn't always look the same in our sky. As Earth and Mars both orbit the Sun, the distance between them changes, and so does the apparent size of Mars. This image shows Mars at different points in its orbit in 2007 and 2008, captured with the same magnification. When the two planets are close, Mars appears larger and brighter.
