Generations of Stars in W5
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
W5 is a giant star-forming region, over 200 light-years across and 6,500 light-years away in Cassiopeia. This Spitzer Space Telescope mosaic shows sculpted clouds of cold gas and dust, including the "Mountains of Creation" on the right. Evidence suggests that successive generations of stars formed in W5 in an expanding pattern.
