COSMIC MESSAGE

NGC 891 is an edge-on spiral galaxy, about 100,000 light-years across and 30 million light-years distant in Andromeda. It closely resembles our own Milky Way, with a flat, thin disk, a central bulge, and dark lanes of dust cutting through its middle. Filaments of dust extend hundreds of light-years out from the main disk.
