COSMIC MESSAGE

The Cat's Eye Nebula, NGC 6543, is a well-known planetary nebula. This image, using data from the Nordic Optical Telescope, reveals an enormous, faint halo of gas surrounding the brighter central nebula. This halo is over three light-years across, showing the vast extent of the star's expelled material.
