The Starry Night of Alamut

A meteor streaks across the sky above the imposing mountain fortress of Alamut in Iran. The arc of the Milky Way hangs overhead. Alamut Castle, meaning 'Eagle's Nest,' was built into the rock in the 9th century in the central Alborz Mountains. It was historically a center for libraries and education, once home to the 13th-century Persian scholar and astronomer Nasir al-Din al-Tusi.
