A Partial Lunar Eclipse

NASA APOD · Brad Riza
COSMIC MESSAGE

Part of the Moon moved through Earth's shadow, creating a partial lunar eclipse. This happens once or twice a year because the Moon's orbit is slightly tilted. In this image, Earth's clouds partly block the full Moon's face, and Earth's umbral shadow darkens the upper right.
