COSMIC MESSAGE

Supernova remnant N49 in the Large Magellanic Cloud is a chaotic scene of stellar destruction. Yellow filaments show visible gas, while blue marks hot X-ray emitting gas from the explosion. The blue blob on the far right may be a piece of the star thrown out by a lopsided explosion. This image combines data from the Chandra and Hubble Space Telescopes.
