Two Hours Before Neptune
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
The Voyager 2 robot spacecraft snapped this picture two hours before its closest approach to Neptune in 1989. Long, light-colored cirrus-type clouds float high in Neptune's atmosphere. Shadows of these clouds are visible on lower cloud decks. Neptune's blue color comes from atmospheric methane, which absorbs red light.
