In July 1054, the Crab Supernova blazed into the dawn sky. Chinese court astrologers first saw this Guest Star on the morning of July 4, 1054. It peaked in late July, a bit brighter than Venus, and was visible in the daytime for twenty-three days. This historic event was likely discovered independently by cultures around the world.
