COSMIC MESSAGE

The small constellation Sagitta hosts this cosmic jewelry, the Necklace Nebula, about 15,000 light-years away. This newly discovered planetary nebula has a bright ring of glowing gas that is half a light-year across. Planetary nebulae are formed by sun-like stars in their final evolutionary phase. The Necklace Nebula's central star has been identified as a binary system, tilted to our line of sight.
