COSMIC MESSAGE
The Horsehead Nebula, a famous dark nebula, is silhouetted against a bright emission nebula. It is part of the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex, about 1,300 light-years away. The red glow comes from hydrogen gas ionized by the nearby bright star Sigma Orionis. The Horsehead's distinctive shape is a chance alignment of dust.
