NASA APOD · Rolf Geissinger
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Elephant's Trunk Nebula, over 20 light-years long, winds through the IC 1396 emission nebula and young star cluster complex. This cosmic structure is located in the constellation Cepheus. This composite image, captured through narrow-band filters, highlights light from ionized hydrogen, sulfur, and oxygen atoms. The bright, swept-back ridges in the image outline pockets of cooler gas and dust.
