Ghost of the Cepheus Flare

NASA APOD · Stephen Leshin
COSMIC MESSAGE

Spooky shapes drift through this starry expanse in the constellation Cepheus, forming cosmic dust clouds faintly visible in reflected starlight. These clouds lurk at the edge of the Cepheus Flare molecular cloud complex, about 1,200 light-years away. The ghostly nebula vdB 141, or Sh2-136, is near the center of the field, spanning over 2 light-years across. The core of the dark cloud on the right is collapsing, likely forming new stars.
