COSMIC MESSAGE
These five frames, arranged clockwise, show the EPOXI mission spacecraft's journey as it approached, passed under, and looked back at Comet Hartley 2. The closest approach was about 700 kilometers. This was the fifth time a spacecraft from Earth imaged a comet up close. Hartley 2's nucleus is the smallest one observed so far, with a long axis spanning only about 2 kilometers.
