COSMIC MESSAGE
Messier 106 is a spiral galaxy about 21 million light years from us, in the constellation Canes Venatici. It is about 30,000 light years across, similar in size to the Andromeda galaxy. This galaxy has a supermassive black hole at its core, actively accreting matter. M106 is notable for having two extra spiral arms, made of gas rather than stars, which are thought to be caused by a jet from the central black hole.
