Mercury and Jupiter at Sunset

NASA APOD · Göran Strand
COSMIC MESSAGE

As the Sun sets, Mercury and Jupiter appear in the twilight sky. Mercury, usually hard to spot, is higher than Jupiter in this image, making it easier to see. This occurs as spring approaches in the Northern Hemisphere, when the ecliptic plane is at a steep angle to the western horizon. Jupiter, however, will continue to sink lower in the sky after sunset.
