MESSENGER at Mercury

MESSENGER was the first spacecraft to orbit Mercury, our solar system's innermost planet. This is its first processed color image since entering orbit. Mercury is larger and denser than Earth's moon, with almost twice the surface gravity. This view shows light blue and brown areas near craters, and long bright rays of material streaking the surface, like the prominent Debussy crater.
