Planetary Nebula NGC 2438

NASA APOD · Daniel López
COSMIC MESSAGE

The planetary nebula NGC 2438 is the gaseous shell of a dying star, located about 3,000 light-years away in the constellation Puppis. It appears to lie within the open star cluster M46, but its central star is much older and moves through space differently. This means it is likely a chance alignment, not a true association.
