COSMIC MESSAGE
A severe geomagnetic storm on September 26, 2011, produced widespread auroras, captured here from Kvaløya island in northern Norway. The intense green glow of the aurora is framed by parting rain clouds, which are silhouetted and tinted orange by the light. The auroral rays extend over 100 kilometers above the ground.
