COSMIC MESSAGE
This movie shows the Sun's surface oozing over a single hour. The photosphere has thousands of granules, which are continent-sized convection cells, and usually a few sunspots. This time-lapse, centered on Sunspot 875, was taken in 2006 by the Vacuum Tower Telescope. Adaptive optics allowed it to resolve details smaller than 500 kilometers across, revealing the dynamic surface of our star.
