COSMIC MESSAGE

In 1901, GK Persei briefly became one of the brightest stars in the sky, an event known as Nova Persei. This composite image from 2003 and 2011 shows the expanding ejecta, often called the Firework Nebula. About 1,500 light-years away, this nebula is still expanding and is nearly a light-year in diameter.
