A Lunar Eclipse Over an Indian Peace Pagoda

NASA APOD · Chander Devgun (SPACE)
COSMIC MESSAGE

Our Moon turned red last week during a total lunar eclipse on December 10. This digitally superimposed image mosaic captures the Moon many times during the eclipse, from before it entered Earth's shadow until after it exited. The image sequence was recorded over a Shanti Stupa Peace Pagoda near New Delhi, India. The red tint of the eclipsed Moon was created by sunlight passing through the Earth's atmosphere, which preferentially scatters blue light.
