COSMIC MESSAGE
This image of the Eagle Nebula, also known as M16, combines data from the Herschel Space Observatory and XMM-Newton telescopes. Herschel's infrared detectors show the cold dust in the region, including the famous Pillars of Creation. These pillars, first imaged by Hubble in 1995, are long columns of gas and dust where new stars are forming.
