COSMIC MESSAGE

NGC 3239 is an irregular galaxy, about 40,000 light-years across, located in the constellation Leo. At a distance of 25 million light-years, it dominates this field of galaxies. Its peculiar structure, with young blue star clusters and star-forming regions, suggests it formed from a galaxy merger. A bright, spiky foreground star appears almost on top of the galaxy.
